"The Carpal Tunnel Went Away Instantly"- Lindsay

👋 About Lindsay

Hi! I’m Lindsay, based in Boston, MA, USA, and I work as an IT Infrastructure Engineer.

I’m always interested in making new stories and learning new things. Over the years, I’ve modded video games, renovated a kitchen, sewed cosplay outfits, run races, and even climbed mountains — among many other adventures.

🥰 Lindsay's Keyboards

Before Dygma, I was using an old slightly spread out “ergonomic” Logitech Wave because I was starting to get carpal tunnel from standard membrane keyboards. Eventually, I even got carpal tunnel from that too.

Since I spend hours every day at a keyboard, I needed a change — and Dygma Defy was the solution. I actually own two: one at home and one at the office.

“The carpal tunnel went away instantly.”

More recently though, I was bouldering (rock climbing without ropes to 12ft). I had been working on a route ("problem") for over 3 weeks, and decided to go for it. I did not make it, and fell 11ft, fracturing my elbow on the Radius bone at the head. Forget carpal tunnel, I couldn't twist my arm at all. Everyone asked how I could still work, and my answer was simple: “Oh, that’s not a problem. I have a keyboard that can adjust to be almost vertical, and it’s columnar so it lines up with my fingers correctly. Typing’s about the only thing I can do with that arm right now!”

That’s why the Defy is my daily driver. It keeps me comfortable and lets me keep working, no matter what.

🚀 Lindsay's Ergonomic Journey

Switching to the Defy was a turning point in my health. Carpal tunnel disappeared almost instantly, and even after my climbing injury, I could keep typing because the keyboard adjusted to me — not the other way around.

Do I have to pick a favorite feature? The Defy had everything I wanted: thumbkeys that work for small hands, built-in tenting, and a columnular layout. Right now, my keyboard is set up in an unusual but effective way: 60° tenting on the left for healing, and 35° on the right for comfort.

“It’s a pretty awkward asymmetrical setup — but it works!”

🖥️ Lindsay's Setup

Home setup: Full L-type sit/stand desk, a large curved 2:3 monitor with a smaller monitor on the side, PC running an AMD Ryzen 7, 3070Ti, and 64GB RAM. A Purple Defy, ROG Gladius 2 Mouse, StreamDeck (with knobs), Epomaker numpad, mic on a mic arm, wired headset, and a Kiyo webcam connected via USB KVM. Add in a laptop stand, a 1L water bottle, chopsticks (to keep fingers clean while eating!), and too many fidgets to count.

Work setup: Manual sit/stand platform, 2 monitors, laptop dock, Black Defy, Logitech MX Anywhere, and a Sennheiser headset.

And to start every day? Black coffee. What can I say, I’m an old nerd ☕

🤖 Lindsay's Layers

My setup is slightly disorganized, but it works well for me. I don’t follow a strict structure—each layer is arranged to balance functionality and convenience for everyday use.

Layers 1 and 6 are essentially duplicate layers. The key difference is that the Caps Lock key and the underglow lighting are set to different colors. This gives me an immediate visual cue so I can tell which state I’m in at a glance.

Layers 2 and 3 are kept mostly default. I use them for the arrow keys and function keys (F1–F12). Since nothing special is needed here, a simple, default layout stays reliable and easy.

Lindsay Layer 2

Layer 4 is my macro layer. On the right side, I’ve mapped recurring cheers and emotes for Twitch, so I can interact quickly in friends’ channels. On the left side, I’ve added Windows key-combo macros—like Task Manager and screen clip—that I’ve condensed from three or four keys down to just two keys for faster access.

Layers 5 and 7 are also duplicates, but they’re dedicated to the numpad. They’re configured to go with Caps Lock and respect its state, making mode switching seamless and behavior consistent.

Lindsay isn’t much on social media — she’s more likely to be found bouldering, sewing cosplay outfits, or climbing mountains. But if you want to chat about IT, ergonomics, or keyboards, you’ll probably catch her in the Dygma Discord community.

Thanks, Lindsay!
